Additional Details

Kim Deitch, son of animator Gene Deitch, became a fixture of the Underground Comix Movement through his work in the East Village Other in 1967. His characters inhabit an alternative retro universe to the famous Hollywood animation studios of the 1930s. His most highly praised work is the graphic novel The Boulevard of Broken Dreams (2002). His best known invention is Waldo, the wisecracking Postmodern variant of such old school cartoon stars as Felix the Cat and Krazy Kat.
